Tire Care Guide

Everything you need to know about tire safety and maintenance

When to Replace Your Tires

Replace tires when tread depth reaches 2/32 inch (use the penny test!), if you see cracks or bulges, or after 6 years regardless of tread. Watch for uneven wear patterns which indicate alignment issues.

Quick Tips:

  • Use the penny test: Insert a penny with Lincoln's head upside down. If you can see all of his head, it's time for new tires.
  • Check for visible damage like cuts, punctures, or bulges
  • Replace all four tires at once for best performance

How to Check Tire Tread

Proper tread depth is essential for safe driving, especially in wet conditions. The minimum legal tread depth is 2/32 inch, but we recommend replacing at 4/32 inch for better safety.

Quick Tips:

  • Penny Test: Insert penny with Lincoln upside down into tread groove
  • Quarter Test: For winter driving, use a quarter instead (better margin)
  • Tread wear indicators: Small bars between treads show when replacement is needed
  • Check multiple spots: Tires can wear unevenly

Tire Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance extends tire life and improves safety. Follow this schedule to get the most from your tires.

Quick Tips:

  • Check tire pressure monthly (including spare)
  • Rotate tires every 5,000-7,000 miles
  • Get alignment checked annually or if car pulls to one side
  • Balance tires when you notice vibration
  • Visual inspection before long trips
